The Story of Oliver’s Gift
The room takes its name from Oliver’s Gift, a Chesapeake Bay log canoe built by Oliver Duke in Solomons, Maryland, in 1948.
The canoe was rebuilt at Higgins Yacht Yard in St. Michaels in 1980 and still races today under sail number 10. Its history gives the room a direct connection to the working boatyards and log canoe racing traditions of Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
